Zener diode, the English name is Zener diode, also known as zener diode. Using PN junction to reverse breakdown state, the current can be changed in a large range and the voltage is basically unchanged. A diode with a voltage stabilizing effect is made.

The ordinary diode has a single conductivity. If it is reverse breakdown, it will be permanently damaged if it is not reversible. The diode is used for its reverse breakdown characteristics. When reverse breakdown is done, the voltage stabilizing diode is used.
The reverse resistance decreases to a very small value. In this low resistance area, the current increases while the voltage keeps constant.

What is the difference between a voltage regulator and a common diode?

There is no difference between the voltage regulator diode and the ordinary diode in the appearance of the two. The common voltage diode is basically similar to the shape of the ordinary small power rectifier diode. When the type mark on the shell is clear, it can be identified according to the type. When the model mark falls off, the multimeter resistance barrier can be used to distinguish the voltage stabilizing diode from the ordinary rectifier diode accurately.

The voltage stabilizing diode is a diode which operates in the reverse breakdown region and has a stabilizing voltage. The measurement of its polarity and performance is similar to the common diode measurement method. The difference is that when the Rxlk diode is used to measure the diode with the multimeter, its reverse resistance is very large. At this time, the multimeter is converted to the Rx10k gear. If the multimeter pointer is turned to the right, the reverse resistance value is reduced. In a much smaller case, the diode is a voltage regulated diode; if the reverse resistance is basically the same, the diode is a common diode, not a voltage regulator.

The measurement principle of the voltage regulator diode is that the internal battery voltage of the multimeter Rxlk is small and usually does not break through the ordinary diode and the voltage regulated diode, so the measured resistance is very large. When the multimeter is converted to the Rx10k gear, the battery voltage in the multimeter becomes very large, making the voltage diode reverse breakdown, so the reverse resistance drops a lot, because the reverse breakdown voltage of the ordinary diode is much higher than that of the stable diode, so the ordinary diode does not strike through and its reverse resistance is still very large.


How to identify the positive and negative pole of the voltage regulator diode

From the aspect of appearance, one end of the metal encapsulated diode body is planar, and one end of the negative electrode is a semicircle surface. One end of the plastic zener diode tube is marked with a color mark, and the other end is the positive pole. It is also possible to use the multimeter to judge the polarity of the stable voltage diode which is not clear. The measurement method is the same as that of the ordinary diode. That is, using the multimeter R x 1K gear, the two pens are respectively connected to the two electrodes of the voltage stabilizing diode, and a result is measured, and then the adjustment of the two form is measured. In the two measurement, the resistance is smaller, the black pen is connected to the positive pole of the diode, the red pen is connected to the negative electrode of the diode (this refers to the pointer type multimeter).
